Most of the bound volumes held within the University Archives are Honors, Masters, and Doctoral theses. They are cataloged and are searchable using the Tulane library online catalog; however, unlike other books, these unique works of scholarship are noncirculating and they may only be used in the The Victor H. and Margaret G. Schiro Reading Room.
Honors and Master’s theses are only available in paper format, not digitally, and stringent photocopying rules apply. While doctoral theses written before 1956 are only available in paper, most dissertations written since 1956 are also available digitally through ProQuest Digital Dissertations. Tulane affiliates and others who have access to the ProQuest digital library may download these doctoral dissertations at no charge through ProQuest's Dissertations and Theses database. Non-Tulane affiliates may purchase dissertation copies through the ProQuest Dissertation Express service.
Other cataloged books in the University Archives are historical pamphlets, course catalogs, histories of Tulane University and of Newcomb College, presidential speeches, commencement addresses, yearbooks, and other volumes on a variety of topics. These are searchable in the online library catalog and, as with other material in Special Collections, they cannot be checked out.
